Our History

Built in the 1850s as a tea room and reading house, Jacksons Cafébar & Guesthouse later became The Temperance House offering lodging without alcohol. It served Manchester Corporation workers building the Thirlmere pipeline, still hidden beneath the fells. Victorian viaducts along local ghylls mark this fascinating heritage.
